How Do You Make Your Packaging More Attractive To Millennials?

Coco López  is a world renowned brand that almost everyone has seen on the shelves of their local supermarket. The packaging has changed very little since its launch over half a century ago. We thought it would be fun to create a new package that would bring Coco López  into the modern era while still maintaining the tropical charm it is known for.

In addition to enhancing the overall aesthetic of the packaging, we wanted to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint by making it more sustainable. Imagemme has been focusing on ways to consult our clients, on how to shift  towards more sustainable packaging affordably. Helping our clients better suit the preferences of today’s market , while protecting the environment.

Our recommendation for Coco López would be to switch from a tin can to an aseptic carton container. The reason for this is mainly because carton containers are lighter than tin cans and thanks to their shape can be packed more efficiently. Since Coco López is shipped from the Caribbean, reducing volume and weight is a great way to reduce emissions from shipping and becoming more sustainable. Had Coco Lopez been situated closer to their consumers, we would have kept their can packaging. While Cans may be more difficult to ship than cartons , they’re easier to recycle because aseptic carton containers have up to 6 layers of different materials making it more complicated to recycle.  Cans are also generally made of 20-30 percent recycled materials.

Sustainability though, is not enough to please the Millennial consumer eye! From a visual standpoint, our choice of pastel colors keep’s  that tropical flare while  giving each product a creamy quality that coconut lovers die for. We used different pastels to represent the different product offerings. Small updates to the logo and the removal of the accent over the “o” were done sparingly to improve overall uniformity between the letterforms without removing the recognizability of the current logo. A new beautiful palm tree emblem adorns the twist off cap which also allows for resealing of the products when they have only been partially used. Hopefully this tropical packaging prepares you for the winter blues as much as it did for us.
