Paper over Plastic

On average, a woman uses 350 packs of plastic sanitary pads in her lifetime. This can create up to 300 pounds of waste in discarded products, packaging and applicators. While there are women looking into alternatives feminine hygiene products, whether it is to create zero waste or for personal hygiene reasons, companies should look into what they can do for their current products to come as close to creating zero waste as they can.

A solution that we came up with is to think of sanitary pads packaging as you would tea. Tea comes individually packaged in little envelopes and then stored in a box. All of the components can be broken down and ultimately recycled. While there are some companies that are approaching feminine hygiene in a more ecological manner (Lola), we can hope that one day this can be the mainstream norm.
