Working From Home

Imagemme believes in team work and synchronicity. It’s no surprise that we had similar feelings when it came to our feelings surrounding having to work from home during the shelter in place.

The article mentions how working from home allows you to work whenever you feel most productive and also touches on  having the ability to work out and get exercise while at home. Lastly, the article argues how regardless of working from home you still have a very open line of communication with your coworkers.

When it comes to productivity from home we generally felt that, while working from home brings freedoms that may inspire creativity, there are also several benefits of working in the office space. Working from home allows you to just get up and take a walk, go to the fridge for a snack and work without office distractions. We also felt that no longer having to commute has definitely boosted our productivity. Team members have found themselves logging in earlier and signing off later. However, there are still things about being in an office that just help engage focus. Being in the office space helps us to focus better and helps remind us that we have dedicated ourselves to accomplishing tasks for an allotted amount of time. Although working from home may provide the opportunity to work without the distractions of a workplace, we’ve found that noisy roommates or the comfort of home can be just as distracting.

In regard to having the opportunity to work out at home, the team has recognized the appeal of the opportunity; while also noticing a few changes in their daily regimen. Some team members felt that not traveling to and from work in the morning took a chunk out of the exercise that they were already receiving. A few of us have been using working at home as an opportunity to exercise throughout the day or take some time to go for a quick run. We don’t feel that working out at home is as productive as hitting the gym but we do feel it’s a nice way to break up the day or spend your break. Opposed to working out, some of us have just been using this time to eat healthier. We’ve found cooking our meals to be way healthier than eating out each day.

On the point of communication while remote we were all on the same page. We felt that nothing compares to in-person interaction but we’re all really grateful that we get to do video conferences each day. Imagemme has truly been able to stand together while staying apart. Working remote hasn’t at all meant that we have become isolated or alone. The team admits at times communication is a little less fluid and not as easy as it was when we were able to walk over and talk or shout something across the room, but we are all glad that we get to interact with each other during our morning brief and continue to communicate as often or maybe a little more as when we were in the office.

We’re a small close knit team ,used to working very closely with one another. We’ve been working with a cloud based server for years, that allowed us to transition to working from home very seamlessly. Yet, the feeling of having to work from home for an indeterminate amount of time is still something that we all have to get used too.
