Designed to encourage safe sex among teens, the campaign (mis)uses provocative images and messages to try to scare teens into safe sex, or abstinence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-608\" src=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-1.jpg\" alt=\"teen-pregnancy-1\" width=\"635\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-1.jpg 635w, https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-1-286x300.jpg 286w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By putting the message in the baby\u2019s mouth, viewers are forced to read it, and into it, from the baby\u2019s perspective. Therefore, when he says that he won\u2019t graduate from high school because he was born to a teen mother, what is he expressing? That it would have been better not to have been born at all? Taking into account the quality of life of a potential child is more than reasonable, however this implicit suggestion, especially coming from the child itself, is particularly hard to swallow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-609\" src=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-3.jpg\" alt=\"teen-pregnancy-3\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-3-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This advertisement makes two risky, potentially alienating presumptions. The first is telling young male viewers,\u00a0via the specific mention of child support, that they\u00a0that won\u2019t end up staying with the mother of their child. While this statistically most often the case, it\u2019s not a reality that many young, unrealistic men will necessarily accept.\u00a0The second assumption is that young men would rather keep their money than raise a potential child. Once again, this statement doesn\u2019t accurately reflect the mindset of most young men (who, probably, are incapable of becoming concerned with their long-term finances in the first place), and the minority of young men this feeling does apply to wouldn\u2019t want to identify with it.<\/p>\n<p>The advertisements that received the most backlash in the media were ones of teenage, pregnant boys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-610\" src=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-6.jpg\" alt=\"teen-pregnancy-6\" width=\"635\" height=\"932\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-6.jpg 635w, https:\/\/imagemme.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/teen-pregnancy-6-204x300.jpg 204w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you live in NYC, you\u2019ve probably noticed the controversial advertisements from the NYC Teen Pregnancy Prevention campaign.
